Hawks News: AMPJFC On the Couch

With AFL 2020 Draft Prospect Logan McDonald

Join us as we interview one of our past Juniors Logan McDonald, a 2020 AFL draft prospect, as we talk all things footy and beyond and get an insight into the persona of the man on the road to achieving his boyhood dream of being an AFL footballer. Logan joined the AMPJFC Hawks in Year 7 coming down from Carnarvon with his family after his father Darren took on the Principal role at St Benedict’s. He played 3 years with the AMPJFC in a very successful tenure with 1 Premiership and 2 other Grand Final outings, plus a couple of Best and Fairests, before playing PSA football with Aquinas and moving onto country footy with Coorow-Latham (a Club founded by his great grandfather) as a 15 year old playing in the seniors.

Logan’s Junior football saw him regularly make it to the highest level of selection in State teams and as an All-Australian in the U16s. He played in the 2019 interstate comp representing WA as an underage player, playing with 2019 draft prospects such as Captain and 2019 Brisbane Lions draftee Deven Robertson. WA won the championships for the first time in 9 years. The pinnacle of his career to date was the selection in the 2019 U17s Allstars Futures which saw the best U17s in the country and 2020 draft prospects, play the curtain raiser to last year’s Grand Final at the MCG.

With the normal interstate competitions, which assists the 2020 prospects gain selection in the national draft, postponed due to COVID, Logan is forging his own road to selection. Since we interviewed Logan there has been interest shown by 8 of the AFL Clubs to date and he has continued to grow in stature and strength, now standing at 196cm tall. Playing now for Perth in the WAFL, Logan, while still eligible for Colts, played his first game of League in round 1 and received a Best on Ground for his performance, kicking 3-2 in a closely contested win over Peel and stamping his mark on the game. With elite football in his bloodline, we are excited for Logan’s journey ahead and following his football career. We look forward to placing Logan’s photo up on our Club room’s Wall of Fame alongside other greats of our game who have played with the AMPJFC!! Goodluck Logan McDonald.
