awards

2021 was a very successful year for our Club with 4 of the 6 Youth teams playing Finals, and our Year 8s achieving Runners-Up Premiers. Our Club also boasted 2 of it’s Youth players achieving the Competition’s Best and Fairest at the end of the season and Year 6 Coach Leon Guthrie taking out the 2021 Junior Coach of the Year for the East Fremantle District. Our Club was also awarded Club of the Year in the East Fremantle District. This award recognises the hard work of our community, our team of volunteers, members and sponsors who work together to provide a positive environment for all of our Auskick to Year 12 players through football.

Welcome to the AMPJFC season 2022

It’s my pleasure to welcome all families to the Applecross Mount Pleasant Junior Football Club (AMPJFC) for season 2022!

The Applecross Mount Pleasant Junior Football Club is a boutique family club with a strong history across the Applecross, Mount Pleasant and Ardross areas dating back to 1952. This season, 2022, our Club will move to its new club rooms at Shirley Strickland, boasting a new state of the art facility and more importantly uniting our club at the one location. melvilletalks.com.au/shirley-strickland. In Season 2021 we celebrated the end of an era, leaving our clubrooms at Gairloch, home to us for 57 years, in our Club’s 70th year of operation. This year, once again, we find ourselves in challenging waters with COVID in the community and navigating the protocols of the season ahead. While we all may have to implement some flexibility throughout the season to ensure the best outcomes for our players and football community, it is all systems go from our end and our Club will continue to take advice from the West Australian Football Commission and monitor the situation any changes required ahead. We have planned our first event to kick off the 2022 Season with our Jumper Presentation for Friday 1st April 5pm at Shirley Strickland and I look forward to officially welcoming all of our families, players and sponsors to our Club and introducing a 2022 Committee, Coaches and Team Managers.

In Season 2021 our Club had approximately 380 registered players, including nearly 140 Auskickers, the foundation of our Club and with a growing number of female participants, take to our ground every Saturday during our season of terms 2 and 3. For each of our Junior age groups in Years 3-6 which play on Sunday, our Year 7-9 Youth boy teams play Saturday and Year 10-12 boys play Sunday. In 2021 our Club was proud to welcome in the inaugural Year 7/8 girls team and in Season 2022 we add a further Year 9/10 girls team to our Youth sides, both teams will predominantly play Sundays. Our aim is to continue to grow the Club and to bolster the strength of numbers in our Juniors and Youth teams, in particular our female participation.

AMPJFC prides itself on being inclusive, welcoming girls and boys and catering for all abilities. We maintain a strong relationship with the Clontarf Boarding College in Bentley, which allows the indigenous students to train and play with our teams on the weekend. In season 2021 Clontarf provided an opportunity for 28 girls and boys who come from communities throughout WA to join our Years 7-12 teams, including our inagural Year 7/8 Girls team, and become an important part of our AMPJFC family. This year we strive to expand the opportunities for the girls at our Club by providing another team in the Year 9/10 competition.

We have a strong coaching team and support systems for the development of coaches. With current Coaching Coordinator Chris Bates and ex AFL great Glen Jakovich (West Coast) and a number of ex-WAFL players in amongst our coaching team, leading the way, our future looks bright. In addition we have an amazing team of volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes, including a team of 22 committee members in 2022 lead by President Sheldon Brady and the many volunteers taking on roles within the teams. There is a lot of planning and focus on improvements and moving the Club forward for success into the future. Our Club has an excellent coaching team and support systems for the development of coaches. In addition, we have an amazing team of volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes, including the dedicated committee and the many volunteers taking on roles within the teams.

There is a lot of planning and focus on improvements and moving the Club forward for success into the future. A major part of this is the support from our generous sponsors. Our major sponsor, Brett Johnston LIFTEQUIPT has renewed his  3 year deal for seasons 2022-2024. We have a new Platinum sponsor MGP Property with James Priestly whose family has a long history with our Club. We welcome new sponsor Cioccolato and AJ as Silver Sponsors in 2022 and Kim Turner Real Estate who is a Crystal Sponsor for our AMPJFC. We continue our partnership with David Barclay from Benchmark Mouthguards Applecross, offering his support by providing mouthguards for our members with private health funds at $0 gap. Sponsorships are continuing to come in and we invite opportunities for new sponsorship and previous sponsorships from businesses and families to partner with us for season 2022 and I encourage members to take every opportunity to support all local businesses sponsoring our club where you can. Sponsorship packages can be viewed on the website. AMPJFC Sponsorship packages 2022

We are committed to ensuring all families feel welcome and a part of our Club. I invite you to volunteer your time, energy and support where possible to the many Club activities throughout the season and I look forward to seeing our members (new and old) at the games or social events, including Sundowners and fundraisers, held during the season. Finally, please register as soon as possible to assist us with our planning and to ensure your child doesn’t miss out in their age group team. Please make sure you join our social mediums, Facebook and Instagram Facebook, Instagram(ampjfc_hawks) and view our regular Blogs (www.ampjfc.com.au) to stay up to date with Club news.
