Round 4 Applecross Hawks Vs East Fremantle Power. We have built a very strong, healthy and respectful rivalry against East Fremantle over the last 3 season and again this game didn’t disappoint. It was our 1st home game of the season and it was great to be back on Shirley Strickland Oval and after a very slow start, the undermanned East Freo side jumped us and were winning most of the play. We had a few players out with injuries which gave other players opportunities to play in different positions and to have a greater impact on the game.
After trailing by just over 4 goals at half time we walked over to one of the big trees on the hill, sat down and had a good old chat about how we were playing and when I asked the boys they said they’re just having a bit of an off day. So we kept everything positive made a few positional changes and I could see the look in their eyes that they were determined to put in a better performance in the second half. To their credit they worked really hard for each other across the ground and we started to win more of the ball which lifted their confidence and we came in at 3/4 time a goal up. The last quarter was very enjoyable to watch as a lot of the players who have been working really hard on areas of their game really stood up and brought us home with a 36 point win. It was most satisfying to see the players work from a half time deficit to a 2nd half victory by working through a little bit of adversity. Also congratulation to Stirling Delahunt who played his 75th Milestone game.
Awesome Day Awesome Result.. Go Hawks…
