Team In Focus ~ Year 9
Weekend Match Report
5th May AMPJFC 14.11-95 d Mundijong Centrals 9.7-61
On Sat 4th May, our team travelled out to Mundijong to play Mundijong Centrals where last time we met them we won convincingly by 99 points. After last week’s strong win over Kelmscott with only 15 players, we were bolstered by the inclusion of 4 new players through some active off-field recruiting.
Excited to say we have 3 new players from Clontarf and also a TIWI Islander whom lives in South Perth this year. This enabled us to go into this game with a full compliment of 21 players and put together a stronger team structure and game plan.
The game was fiercely played as we enjoyed getting off to a good start in the 1st quarter and remained in front all day. There were some amazing individual and team passages. One in particular that stood out was in the 3rd quarter when we scored a goal within 20 seconds of the ball up. Most importantly it was a result of 7 players linking up. It was exciting to watch, the highlight of the day and showed the type of football our team is capable of playing. Applecross eventually ran out winners 14.11 – 95 to 9.7 – 61.
Defining the teams solid performance this week was our clearance work from the Ruck contests as we were able to get first hands on the ball and then use it well. Supporting this was our ability to run into space and spot up the best option and finally a willingness to compete and win back the ball through determined chasing, tackling and creating pressure.
Our ability to run out games (we lost the last quarter leaking too many goals) is something the boys were aware of after the game and will look to address this week. Overall a great game all round this week, one the parents and players alike should be very proud of.
Thanks to the support staff (you all know whom you are), our great parent supporters and the players too for your efforts.
We are now 2 from 2 and home this week to South Coogee. We are looking to string 3 in a row which would be a solid start to the year.
